With a penchant for thought-provoking and suspenseful narratives, Tyler's films have earned him numerous accolades and industry recognition. His debut feature, Low Life, was produced independently and premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in 2022, after being acquired by XYZ Films. The film stars Lucas Neff (Marriage Story, Raising Hope) and follows two YouTubers as they attempt to expose a child predator and bring him to justice. The New York Times praised the film as "a suspenseful thriller about the making of a modern predator and the perils of internet notoriety." James's passion for visual effects led him to work in the industry as a freelance compositor for music videos and narrative shorts after moving to Los Angeles in 2012. He then transitioned to television visual effects production at CoSA VFX, where he worked as a Production Coordinator on several high-profile projects, including Gotham, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Westworld. Later, he went on to work on large mini-series projects like Catch-22, The Underground Railroad, and The Old Man. Before making his debut feature, James worked in the Amazon Studios VFX department, working on VFX-driven projects such as The Peripheral, Fallout, and Citadel. In 2016, Tyler founded his own independent film production company, Ad Opus, based in Los Angeles, California. His early short films and music videos received acclaim and awards, including The Audience Award at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, Best Visual Effects at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, and Best Experimental Short at the CineYouth Film Festival. In 2016, Tyler was selected as a finalist for the Roy W Dean Grant for his narrative short 62 Million.
